The ST0088 is the full-length Top Rail Support for the FX Impact M4, and its main job is to add rigidity along the entire length of the Impact, which is what gives you more precision and better shot-to-shot repeatability. The rail is 28 1/4 inches long and weighs 1 lb 8 oz, and it also gives your scope, top-mounted accessories or an inline night vision unit one stiff mounting surface for the whole rifle.

It is meant for M4 owners who shoot from the bench, from a bag or in field matches and want the rifle to behave the same way from the first shot of the day to the last. It also fits earlier FX Impact models.

Why it's built the way it is

If you strip an FX Impact all the way down, you end up with a series of separate assemblies, starting with the front action and moving back through the plenum to the rear valve area and block. None of those parts are actually connected to each other, so the top rail is the only part that holds the whole system rigid. The factory rail does that job, and the TRS replaces it with a longer and stiffer rail that runs the full length of the rifle, so the action, plenum and valve block stay in the same relationship to each other and to your scope from shot to shot.

The shroud support comes in the box with the rail, and running it is optional. Think of it as a harmonic tuning tool rather than a required part, because connecting the barrel shroud to the rail changes how the barrel system vibrates during the shot. With some tunes and ammo combinations, adding the shroud support produces higher levels of precision, while other setups shoot their best groups with the barrel free-floated, so it gives you one more variable to experiment with while the rail does its main job of stiffening the rifle either way.

We machined 20 MOA of elevation into the rail so you keep more scope adjustment in reserve for long-range holds, and we added a bubble level so you can check cant without fitting a separate level to the scope. The sides have M-LOK slots for lights, lasers or rail weights, and there are QD sling sockets on both sides so left- and right-handed shooters both have a usable sling point. Saber Tactical has worked with airgunners and precision shooters throughout the sport, and our products have been tested and used in real-world hunting and competition precision shooting.

Specs

SKU ST0088

Weight 1 lb 8 oz
Material 6061 aluminum
Purpose Adds rigidity along the full length of the Impact action, plenum and valve block
Built-in elevation 20 MOA
Accessory slots M-LOK on the sides
Sling QD sockets on both sides
Level Integrated bubble level
Shroud support Included in the box; optional to run. A harmonic tuning option that ties the barrel shroud to the rail, and some tune and ammo combinations group best with it while others group best free-floated

Fits

  • FX Impact M4
  • Earlier FX Impact models
  • Saber FX Impact M4 Ambidextrous Cheek Rest ST0091 and M4 Cheek Riser ST0090, which both require an M4 TRS rail
  • Saber Delrin Clamp for TRS Rail ST0041, sold separately as a spare or replacement shroud clamp, which fits the M4 TRS (add the ST0040 bushing if you run the FX carbon fiber tension kit)

Doesn't fit

  • Not a replacement for the older 1-3 TRS ST0034/ST0035, which are not M4-compatible

You'll need

  • Nothing extra for the shroud support, which comes in the box and is optional to install as a tuning option

Installing and setting it up

Install the rail in place of the factory top rail and tighten it down fully before you fit anything else, since the rail is what holds the action, plenum and valve block in line. If you are trying the included shroud support, fit it after the rail is tight and position it where the shroud naturally sits so it doesn't pull the shroud off line. If you are free-floating the barrel, check that the shroud doesn't touch the rail anywhere along its length. When you compare the two setups, shoot groups with the same tune and ammo each way so the shroud support is the only thing that changes. In either case, check your zero again afterward, because the stiffer setup can shift point of impact compared with how the rifle shot before.

Common questions

Do I need to run the shroud support?

It comes in the box, but running it is optional, because the shroud support is a harmonic tuning tool rather than a required part. With some tunes and ammo combinations, connecting the shroud to the rail produces higher levels of precision, and other setups shoot their best groups with the barrel free-floated. The rail stiffens the action, plenum and valve block either way, so try both setups with the same tune and ammo and keep whichever one your rifle groups better with.

What does a TRS do that the factory rail doesn't?

The Impact's front action, plenum and rear valve block aren't connected to each other, so the top rail is what holds them together as one rigid unit. The TRS is a longer and stiffer rail that runs the full length of the rifle, which gives you more precision and more consistent shot-to-shot repeatability.

What's the difference between the Standard ST0088 and the Compact ST0089?

The Standard is 28 1/4 inches long and weighs 1 lb 8 oz, while the Compact is 23.5 inches long and weighs 1 lb 4 oz. The 20 MOA, the bubble level, the M-LOK slots, the QD sockets and the optional shroud support are the same on both.

Will this fit my older Impact, not the M4?

Yes, it fits the Impact M4 and previous FX Impact models.

Can I put a cheek riser on the M4 with this rail?

Yes, our M4 Ambidextrous Cheek Rest ST0091 and M4 Cheek Riser ST0090 are designed to work with the M4 TRS rail.
